Jalandhar BSF HQ Blast: Accused arrested in Delhi; explosion at behest of Gangster Shahzad Bhatti

Police and intelligence agencies have achieved a breakthrough in the case involving the IED blast that occurred on the night of May 5 outside the BSF Punjab Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar.

The prime suspect behind this terror plot has been taken into custody in Delhi. It is reported that this action was executed as part of a joint operation by the Delhi Police Special Cell and central agencies, acting on intelligence inputs provided by the Punjab Police.

According to sources, investigative agencies have uncovered links connecting this case to Pakistan’s intelligence agency and its associated Khalistani network. The alleged mastermind behind orchestrating the blast is identified as Pakistani don Shahzad Bhatti, who had established contact with youths in Punjab through social media.

Reportedly, the accused arrested by the Police has been identified as Anil Sharma, a resident of UP. Punjab Police continues to interrogate the accused. Punjab Police are working to uncover the conspiracy behind the blast and are thoroughly investigating every angle.

Tracked from Bus Stand and Apprehended in Delhi
According to reports, the suspect was tracked from the Jalandhar bus stand all the way to Delhi, where he was finally apprehended. Security agencies are currently subjecting him to continuous and intensive interrogation.

17 Youths Taken into Custody
Meanwhile, a massive search operation was launched across Punjab in connection with this case. Late into the night, teams from the police and intelligence agencies conducted raids and investigations in Nakodar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, and Hoshiarpur. So far, a total of 17 youths have been taken into custody for questioning. Most of these youths are reported to have been in contact with Shahzad Bhatti via social media.

Based on technical intelligence, the Jalandhar Police have also detained three youths from Nawanshahr who are suspected of having links to this blast. A high alert remains in force across Punjab regarding this entire incident, and security arrangements have been tightened in several districts.

Blast Occurred on the Evening of May 5
On the evening of May 5, marking the anniversary of ‘Operation Sindoor’, a powerful blast rocked the vicinity of the BSF Headquarters in Jalandhar at approximately 8:15 PM. An Activa scooter was blown apart by the explosion. The sound of the blast was heard up to a kilometer away, triggering panic across the surrounding area.

The explosion was so intense that even the walls of the BSF Headquarters shook. Subsequent investigations revealed that a terrorist wearing a white T-shirt carried out this attack and subsequently fled the scene. A Punjab Police checkpoint was stationed merely 10 steps away from the blast site; yet, the attacker managed to slip away with remarkable ease. The police suspect that two young men conspired to execute this attack.

Use of a Delivery System

The most critical element of this attack involves the utilization of a delivery system. A delivery agent had arrived at the BSF headquarters to deliver a parcel as part of his routine duties. Due to security protocols, he was required to park his scooter outside the premises. The investigation has conclusively cleared this delivery boy of any involvement. When the police scoured nearby CCTV footage, it emerged that a young man wearing a white T-shirt had vanished near a liquor shop situated close to the BSF complex.

He is seen approaching with an envelope in his hand; he places it near the scooter and then makes a hasty exit. The investigation has further revealed that a remote control was used to trigger the explosion. This precise timing suggests that the attacker had conducted a prior reconnaissance of the area.
