Jalandhar Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat Hoists National Flag on Independence Day, Over 500 Sing National Anthem at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium

Jalandhar: A district-level main event was organised at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Jalandhar on the occasion of Independence Day. Punjab’s Horticulture, Freedom Fighters and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat hoisted the National Flag.

Around 500 people present at the stadium sang the National Anthem together, marking the 80th Independence Day celebrations.

Mohinder Bhagat Takes Salute at March Past

Following the flag hoisting, Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat took the salute at the march past while riding in an open jeep. Various contingents participated in the ceremonial parade.

The administration had issued the schedule for the event in advance, with entry to the stadium beginning at 8 a.m. As part of the security arrangements, visitors were not allowed to carry bags inside the venue and were permitted entry only after security checks.

After inspecting the parade, the minister addressed the residents of the district.

Shaheed Families, Freedom Fighters to be Honoured

During the ceremony, freedom fighters and families of martyrs will be honoured. Sewing machines and tricycles will also be distributed among needy people.

PT shows and colourful cultural performances are among the major attractions of the celebrations. Individuals who have made outstanding contributions in different fields will also be honoured with awards.

Full Dress Rehearsal Held Ahead of Main Event

Ahead of the district-level Independence Day celebrations, a full dress rehearsal was held at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium.

Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia directed officials to ensure that all arrangements were completed on time for the smooth and uninterrupted conduct of the ceremony. He also participated in the full dress rehearsal held for the August 15 celebrations.

ITBP, Punjab Police and NCC Among March Past Contingents

The march past will feature contingents from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Punjab Police (men), Punjab Police Women Wing, PRTC Jahan Khelan, Punjab Home Guards and NCC boys and girls.

Students from Lyallpur Khalsa School, scouts from DSSD Senior Secondary School on Sodhal Road, girl students of Lyallpur Khalsa School and Girl Guides from Government Senior Secondary School, Nehru Garden, will also take part in the parade. A CRPF band will also be part of the march past.
