Jalandhar: Cylinder explodes after fire due to short circuit; several people suffer burns

Chaos erupted on Monday at a residence in the Kishanpura area of ​​Jalandhar when a short circuit in a fan located within the home’s prayer room suddenly sparked a fire. In a matter of moments, the fire intensified rapidly, sending plumes of smoke billowing across the entire locality, smoke that was visible from a considerable distance.

Residents immediately began attempting to extinguish the blaze; however, during these efforts, a gas cylinder kept inside the house exploded, causing the fire to flare up even more fiercely. Several individuals who were attempting to bring the fire under control sustained burn injuries in the incident.

Upon receiving news of the event, a fire brigade team rushed to the scene and, utilising four fire tenders, managed to bring the fire under control after a strenuous effort. By that time, however, all the belongings inside the house had been reduced to ashes.

Sudarshan Kumar, father of BJP leader Prashant Gambhir, stated that he was just about to leave the house for his morning walk when the short circuit occurred in the fan located in the prayer room, causing the fire to engulf the entire house within a mere few minutes. He alleged that despite being informed, the fire brigade team arrived late, a delay that resulted in extensive damage.

Meanwhile, Fire Brigade Officer Ravinder Singh stated that the team faced difficulties reaching the scene due to narrow lanes and low-hanging power lines. He added that the team managed to bring the fire under control after a strenuous effort. ASI Seva Singh informed that the police received a report from the control room, following which a team arrived at the spot. Currently, the exact cause of the fire is being investigated.
