Jalandhar, Sep 2: Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Tuesday issued a stern warning to shopkeepers in the district against hoarding of essential commodities and selling goods at high prices in view of the heavy rains for the last two days.
Dr. Aggarwal said that it has come to his notice that some shopkeepers are selling groceries, vegetables, fruits and other essential commodities at high prices, citing floods. He made it clear that such looting will not be tolerated at all, and strict action will be taken against anyone who follows it.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to take steps to check hoarding and illegal increase in prices by conducting regular inspections in the markets.
He appealed to the shopkeepers to understand their moral responsibility in this difficult time and sell goods only at reasonable prices.
