Jalandhar District Bar Association announces No Work Days at Courts on March 16-18. Read to know why

In view of the upcoming elections for the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, the Jalandhar District Bar Association has declared March 16, 17, and 18 as ‘No Work Days.’ During this period, lawyers at the district courts will abstain from legal proceedings to enable their participation in the electoral process and voting. This decision was taken unanimously by the Association’s Executive Committee.

A significant meeting of the Executive Committee of the Jalandhar District Bar Association was convened, wherein a unanimous decision was reached to observe “No Work Days” within the court complex on March 16, 17, and 18. This measure has been adopted in light of the forthcoming elections for the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana.

It is pertinent to note that the Bar Council elections are scheduled to be held across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on March 17 and 18. There is immense enthusiasm among advocates regarding these elections, and a large number of lawyers participate in the voting process to elect their representatives.

The office-bearers of the Association have clarified that the objective behind this decision is not to stage any form of protest or strike. Rather, its primary aim is to provide lawyers with adequate time to engage in electoral activities.

It is frequently observed that, due to the busy schedule of court proceedings, lawyers are unable to fully immerse themselves in the electoral process. By observing ‘No Work Days,’ advocates will be able to campaign in favor of their preferred candidates without any hindrance and help ensure maximum voter turnout.

During these three days, lawyers will not only cast their votes but also engage in reaching out to their colleagues and bolstering the electoral atmosphere. The Association believes that this initiative will enhance electoral participation and strengthen the democratic process.
