The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a summons to the Chief General Manager of the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation in Jalandhar. The summons directs the CGM to appear with records regarding the allotment letter issued to Ritesh Properties Industries Limited.
The case pertains to the allotment of 40 acres of land to a firm linked to Sanjeev Arora, a former Industries Minister of the Punjab government and an MLA from Ludhiana. ED officials have also sought documents related to property clearances from the Jalandhar office.
It is noteworthy that the ED arrested the minister on May 9 at his Chandigarh residence. At the time, he was present at his government bungalow in Sector 2, Chandigarh. After approximately 10 hours of questioning, an ED team took him to Delhi in vehicles bearing Chandigarh and Haryana registration numbers.
Allegations of fictitious sales worth ₹157.12 crore
The ED had conducted raids at five locations linked to Minister Arora, including his government residence in Chandigarh, as well as premises in Delhi and Gurugram. The investigative agency revealed that Arora had shown fictitious sales amounting to approximately ₹157.12 crore in mobile phone purchases through his firms and executed sham exports via shell companies.
Furthermore, it is alleged that these export transactions were used to round-trip illicit funds from Dubai into India. Fake GST bills were also generated from fictitious or non-existent firms in Delhi to claim fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC), GST refunds on exports, and duty drawbacks. It is alleged that this purported fraud caused a loss to the state exchequer and was orchestrated for personal gain.
