Jalandhar: Family which spoke out against drug traffickers attacked

In Shivaji Nagar, Basti Danishmanda, Jalandhar, drug traffickers attacked a family after they filed a complaint with the police. The family, which consists of a pregnant woman, had spoken out against the illegal drug trade, was attacked by traffickers for the second consecutive day.

​​The attack, which took place late Friday night around midnight, involved sharp weapons and bricks, injuring several family members and shopkeepers in the neighborhood.

A climate of fear prevailed in the area until late into the night. The victimized family alleged that they had filed a complaint against the drug traffickers at Police Station No. 3 on Thursday, but the police’s lax response emboldened the traffickers. The family claims that if the police had taken strict action that day, the violent incident on Friday night could have been avoided.

The woman stated that young men openly selling drugs in the neighborhood repeatedly lured her husband and forced him to use drugs. She had filed a police complaint to protect her husband from addiction, after which the traffickers attacked her family in retaliation. The woman alleges that the accused are responsible for her husband’s addiction and the ruin of her family’s life.

According to the victims, police, including a DSP, arrived at the scene on Thursday night after receiving reports of a fight in the area. They mediated between the two parties and then left. However, as soon as the police left, the accused attacked again. The woman claims that the entire incident was captured on video, which shows the accused openly hurling abuses and throwing bricks.
