Illegal Mining Busted in Jalandhar Cantonment: Police Seize Machinery and Trucks

Jalandhar: Action was taken after receiving information about illegal mining in Jalandhar Cantonment area late at night. Aam Aadmi Party regional in-charge Rajwinder Kaur Thiyara reached the spot and directed the police to seize the machinery. A Pokleen machine and five tipper trucks were seized from the spot.

Rajwinder Kaur Thiyara said that she received a call from a party worker at around 1 am informing her about illegal mining in the area. When she and her team reached, they saw that the land was being dug about 7 feet deep and the soil was being loaded into trucks. Even before they reached, the people involved in mining fled, abandoning the trucks and machinery.

Police outpost in-charge Jasbir Singh said that all the machinery from the incident site has been seized and legal action is being taken against the absconding accused. Rajwinder Kaur clearly said that illegal mining in the area will not be tolerated under any circumstances. She gave strict orders to the police to take action as per the guidelines of the Punjab government.

Key points of Punjab Mining Policy

Amendment in April 2025:

Landowners can now mine their own land.

Crusher units can mine only after obtaining lease from the landowners.

The aim is to stop illegal mining and reduce the import of gravel/sand from other states.

Digital recording and GPS tracking mandatory from October 2025:

All mining and transport records will be kept digitally.

GPS tracking is mandatory for trucks.

Violation of the rules will attract a fine or royalty of up to ₹5 lakh.

This will stabilize construction material prices, reduce illegal mining, and increase revenue.
