Jalandhar rape-murder case: Minister Mohinder Bhagat promises strict action

Jalandhar: The tragic incident of rape and murder of a minor girl in Jalandhar has shaken the entire city. After the incident, Punjab Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat met the victim’s family and expressed his deep condolences. The minister visited the family’s house after the last rites and assured them of justice.

The family members – the victim’s maternal uncle Charanpreet Singh and brother – demanded strict action in the case, saying they want justice and the culprit should be hanged.

Government will seek death penalty, case will be sent to fast-track court.

Minister Mohinder Bhagat said that this incident is shameful not only for Jalandhar but for the entire Punjab. He said that keeping in mind the sentiments of the family, the government will recommend death penalty for the culprit. The case will be sent to a fast-track court to ensure speedy justice.

The minister said that strict punishment is necessary to prevent such incidents in future. “It is sad that children are no longer safe even in their homes and neighbourhoods,” he said.

Outrage over police negligence, demand for dismissal of guilty personnel

Minister Bhagat said that during the initial investigation, some personnel showed serious negligence, due to which the girl lost her life. He said that mere suspension is not enough; the responsible personnel should be dismissed from service.

He said that he will write a letter to the CP and DGP demanding strict action against the guilty police personnel.

Accused confesses: hid the body in the bathroom

Describing the incident, the minister said that the accused confessed to raping and murdering the minor during interrogation. After the murder, he hid the body in the bathroom and later tried to take it somewhere else. However, the vigilance and cooperation of the local residents exposed the entire matter.

Mohinder Bhagat said that it was only with the cooperation of the residents of the neighborhood that the culprit was exposed and the family was able to know the truth.
