Jammu and Kashmir High Court: Proceedings to be Held in Virtual Mode; Hybrid Working Commences

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has decided to implement virtual hearings and a hybrid working arrangement with a view to conserving fuel. This step has been taken following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and economic self-reliance.

According to a circular issued by the Registrar General of the High Court, starting May 21, 2026, virtual appearances by lawyers and online hearings will be encouraged within the court. However, under compelling circumstances, lawyers will also be permitted to appear in person.

During the summer vacations, the vacation benches, which commence their sittings on June 8, will also conduct hearings in virtual mode. Furthermore, administrative inspections of districts and official meetings will be conducted via online platforms until further notice.

The High Court has also decided to impose a temporary suspension on the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) facility for judicial officers and staff. Additionally, all training programs, workshops, and orientation sessions organized by the Judicial Academy will henceforth be conducted exclusively in online mode. Administrative officers have also been directed to share government vehicles in order to minimize fuel consumption and ensure the optimal utilization of resources.
