Jammu: Depositors on streets; protest against JK SCARD Bank leads to clashes with police

Depositors of the JK SCARD Bank staged a sit-in protest at Shaheedi Chowk to protest against the non-payment of their deposits. Arriving in large numbers, the depositors raised slogans against the bank administration and demanded immediate payment.

The atmosphere turned tense during the demonstration when the protesters began marching towards the Chief Minister’s residence. In the ensuing attempt by the police to stop them, a scuffle broke out between the police and the protesters.

To bring the situation under control, the police deployed additional forces to the scene and prevented the protesters from advancing further. Subsequently, efforts were made to defuse the situation through dialogue. The protesters have warned that if their demands are not met, they will further intensify their agitation.
