24-year-old Agniveer on duty in Jammu commits suicide, dies on spot

A soldier at an army camp in Jammu allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle, officials said on Thursday.

According to officials, 24-year-old Agniveer, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was posted on guard duty at the Nagrota garrison.

He took the extreme step around Wednesday midnight. The soldier died on the spot.

His body has been sent to the Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained. The police have registered a case and started an investigation.
