Jammu & Kashmir: First ESIC Hospital Inaugurated in Budgam; Union Minister Presides over Ceremony

A hospital for workers has opened in Ompora, Budgam, Jammu & Kashmir, with the assistance of the Central Government. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, inaugurated the 30-bed Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital.

This initiative will strengthen healthcare access and social security infrastructure for workers and their families in Jammu & Kashmir.

This new hospital marks Kashmir’s first ESIC facility and is set to prove a historic milestone in the expansion of worker welfare services within the region. During the event, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated the workers who had contributed to the construction of this hospital in Ompora.

Additionally, he distributed various social security benefits to insured persons across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

Over 50,000 Workers to Benefit
Constructed at a cost of ₹165 crore, this hospital has been established with provisions for future expansion up to a capacity of 100 beds. It is expected to directly benefit over 50,000 workers and their family members. The ESI Scheme was launched in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir on October 16, 1989, initially covering approximately 7,000 workers across Jammu, Kathua, and Nagar.

Currently, the ESI Scheme is operational across all districts of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Through this scheme, services are being provided to approximately 183,119 insured persons and around 700,000 beneficiaries. The scheme is administered through the Jammu-based ESIC Regional Office and the Jammu & Kashmir Employees’ State Insurance Society (JKESIS).
