Jammu: Mass Campaign against drugs from tomorrow, LG Sinha announces

The regional administration has formulated a comprehensive action plan to combat drug abuse. During a high-level review meeting, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced the launch of a public awareness campaign starting April 11.

He has appointed a designated officer in every district to monitor this intensive 100-day drive. He himself will personally review the progress of the campaign every 15 days.

The campaign will commence in Jammu on April 11 with a massive foot march (Padayatra) starting from the M.A. Stadium, which will be flagged off by the LG. He will personally participate in this march. Subsequently, the public campaign will be launched in other districts, including Kathua and Rajouri, in the presence of the Lieutenant Governor. The campaign is scheduled to kick off in the Kashmir division during the first week of May.

The Lieutenant Governor has appealed to the residents of the region to participate enthusiastically in this public campaign. He emphasized that everyone must come together to fight against the menace of drugs, which threatens to ruin the younger generation.

Senior officials from all departments, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Special DG (Coordination) S.J.M. Gillani, Principal Secretary of the Home Department Chandraker Bharti, and Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, were present at the meeting.

Drug Traffickers Must Either Quit This Trade or Leave the Region

The Lieutenant Governor directed officials to conduct continuous and intensive operations to dismantle drug trafficking networks. He stated, “Do not harass the innocent, but show no mercy to the guilty.”

He further directed that individuals who have fallen victim to drug abuse be identified, and special attention be paid to their rehabilitation. The Lieutenant Governor also issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, declaring that those involved in drug trafficking must either abandon this illicit trade or leave Jammu and Kashmir immediately.
