Jharkhand Exam Row: Hemant Soren Says Over 8,500 Suggestions Received Amid Student Stir

Ranchi: Amid the ongoing student agitation in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday said that more than 8,500 suggestions have been received so far on reforming the state’s examination system.

Soren shared the update on X as part of the government’s “Students’ Voice, With Students” campaign, which seeks suggestions from students and job aspirants on improving the recruitment and examination process.

This was Soren’s third social media message in three days addressing young people amid growing concerns over examination-related issues in the state.

Students Suggest Changes in Exam System

According to Soren, students and job aspirants have submitted suggestions on several issues, including OMR-based examinations, a fixed examination calendar, scorecards, question papers and transparency in recruitment tests.

Suggestions have also been received on greater use of technology and reforms within the constitutional framework of the state’s recruitment commissions, including the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).

Soren said the government’s objective was not merely to discuss existing problems but to build an examination system that is transparent, fair, secure, reliable and accountable for both current and future generations.

He said the government wants to address the challenges facing the existing system while creating a recruitment framework capable of restoring confidence among students and job aspirants.

Hemant Soren Seeks More Suggestions

The Chief Minister appealed to young people to continue sharing their views, saying every suggestion could contribute to reforms in the examination system and improve the prospects of thousands of students and job aspirants across Jharkhand.

He emphasised that examination reforms should not be treated as a government-only exercise and that meaningful participation by students and the wider public would be important in shaping institutional and policy changes.

Soren said the suggestions received from students should become an integral part of future policy decisions and institutional reforms.

Jharkhand Student Protest Enters Day 19

The development comes as students in Jharkhand continue their protest over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the JPSC and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

The agitation has entered its 19th day, with protesters demanding an overhaul of the examination system, an investigation into controversial recruitment tests and greater transparency in the recruitment process.

The situation intensified on Monday when clashes broke out between protesting students and police during a march towards the Jharkhand Assembly.

The latest outreach by the Chief Minister comes amid the continuing standoff between the protesting students and the state government over their demands for examination and recruitment reforms.
