Jhota Murder Case: Action Committee Announces Statewide Protests, Vows to Burn AAP Brooms

Mansa: The Action Committee formed to protest the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota has announced statewide demonstrations against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab on Sunday. The committee has called for burning the party’s election symbol, the broom, during protests to be held in villages and cities from 12 noon to 7 pm.

A separate demonstration will be held at the ongoing protest site in Mansa at 2 pm.

The committee has appealed to farmer and labour organisations, employee unions, shopkeepers and members of the public to participate in the demonstrations. It has also urged residents of villages in Mansa and neighbouring districts to reach the protest site and extend their support.

CBI Raids Medical Stores in Mansa

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing Jhota’s murder, conducted raids at several medical stores in Mansa on Saturday morning. The agency examined issues related to the sale and stock of prohibited narcotic drugs.

Parvinder Singh Jhota was allegedly shot dead by chemist Ashwini Kumar on October 13. His post-mortem examination has not yet been conducted, as his family and the Action Committee continue to insist that their demands be fulfilled before the procedure takes place.

The committee has maintained that the post-mortem will not be conducted until all demands are accepted. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), however, has stated that it has taken note of 11 demands.

Jhota’s Father Demands Transfer of Mansa SSP

Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, has raised questions about the functioning of Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vaibhav Chaudhary. He alleged that police officials could also have been complicit in the murder and demanded the SSP’s immediate transfer.

He also demanded the immediate dismissal from service of suspended DSP Harjinder Singh Gill and City-2 police station SHO Beant Kaur.

Action Committee Sticks to Demand for CM, DGP’s Resignations

The Action Committee clarified its position during a press conference on Thursday over the Jhota murder case.

Committee member Manik Goyal said the family’s first two demands were the resignations of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Punjab Director General of Police (DGP). He stated that talks with the government could not reach any conclusion until both officials resigned.

The committee has maintained that it will continue its protest until its demands are met.
