Srinagar, March 3, 2026 — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level security review meeting at Lok Bhavan, Srinagar on Tuesday evening to assess the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir amid evolving regional developments and internal challenges. The meeting was convened with senior military and police officials as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the Union Territory’s security apparatus and ensure peace and stability across all sensitive districts.
Top commanders and senior officials attended the session, including Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, chief of the Northern Command; Nalin Prabhat, Director General of Police of J&K; Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava, commander of the Srinagar-headquartered 15 Corps; and Major General Balbir Singh, Major General General Staff of the Northern Command.
During the comprehensive security briefing, officials presented detailed assessments on counter-terror operations, border management, intelligence coordination, and the current ground situation in areas that remain sensitive due to past insurgency and ongoing threats. The L-G engaged in in-depth discussions with security chiefs to gauge the efficiency and readiness of existing protocols and to fine-tune operational strategies where necessary.
A key focus of the meeting was the enhancement of coordination and synergy among the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other central and UT security agencies. Officials discussed area domination measures, strengthened surveillance mechanisms, and proactive operational frameworks designed to deter potential threats before they escalate.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha emphasized the importance of maintaining a high level of alertness and operational readiness throughout the Union Territory, stressing that safeguarding peace and security remains a paramount objective of the administration. He directed security leadership to sustain a robust and proactive approach to ensure the safety of citizens and the protection of public order.
The high-level review meeting took place amid heightened regional developments that have implications for internal security dynamics. Authorities in J&K have been closely monitoring events in the broader geopolitical landscape while also responding to localized law and order situations within the Valley. Over recent days, restrictions have been imposed in parts of the Kashmir Valley to prevent any escalation of unrest, including closures of educational institutions and limits on public movement in sensitive areas.
Officials also acknowledged that the current scenario requires continuous coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the welfare and safety of J&K residents and students who may be affected by global events or regional tensions.
Following the directives from the review meeting, security forces and police units have reinforced patrols, intensified intelligence sharing, and maintained close surveillance across key points in Srinagar and other districts. Preventive measures include monitoring public gatherings, keeping a vigilant eye on borders and transit routes, and ensuring rapid response capabilities to any incident that might threaten peace.
Senior officials highlighted that the combined efforts of all security agencies have so far ensured that no major disruptions have occurred, and the focus remains on consolidating these gains while being prepared for any emerging challenges.
In conjunction with the security review, the administration has appealed to local communities to maintain calm and uphold peace. The Lieutenant Governor reiterated that the collective responsibility of safeguarding harmony rests with all sections of society and commended security personnel for their disciplined and coordinated commitment to maintaining law and order.
