J&K Crime Branch Files Chargesheet Against Five in Migrant Property Fraud Case

Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the J&K Crime Branch on Thursday said the chargesheet has been filed in the Rs one crore migrant property fraud case.

“The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch has filed chargesheet against 5 persons on cheating the complainant to an amount of more than one crore rupees in a case of fraudulent sale of migrant property,” a statement issued by the Crime Branch stated.

The chargesheet was filed in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Sopore under FIR No. 34/2017 registered under various provisions of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) including cheating, impersonation, forgery, using forged documents and criminal conspiracy.

    14 Kanals, Three Marlas Land

During the investigation, it came to light that the accused cheated the complainant by fraudulent sale of 14 kanals and three marlas of land in Wussan, Goshbugh Pattan belonging to Jawahar Lal Bhat. The complainant has paid more than one crore rupees to the accused for the land but the accused never handed over the possession and also did not refund the amount.

The investigation has shown that the accused had conspired to defraud the complainant by impersonation, forging false identity documents.

Two Accused Arrested, One in Jail

The accused are Brij Nath (Amit Nagar, Muthi Jammu), Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Dar (Samson, Budgam), Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh (Sachen Banet, Beerwah Budgam), Zahoor Ahmed Dar (Margipora Pattan) and Reyaz Ahmad Rather (Margipora Pattan Baramulla).

Brij Nath, who had used many false names, and Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Dar were arrested in late September. Dar has been released on bail while Brij Nath is lodged in the Central Jail.

Other cases are being investigated against the accused. Earlier, a chargesheet was filed by the EOW against Brij Nath and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh under another case (FIR No. 27/2021) in August, 2023.

The current chargesheet marks the second time a chargesheet has been filed against both those accused. The EOW Kashmir SSP has urged the public to ensure they verify land ownership details and property documents before proceeding with any deals to prevent fraud.
