J&K Police Attach Property of Pakistan-Based Terror Handler

Srinagar / Jammu: In a significant counterterrorism move, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have attached immovable assets belonging to a Pakistan-based terror handler in the Poonch district under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The action underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to disrupt support networks that facilitate cross-border terrorism.

    Action Against Terror Network

Officials said the properties were identified as being used or likely to be used for activities connected with terrorism and unlawful purposes. The move follows extensive intelligence gathering and coordination between various branches of the J&K Police, who have been tracking the financial and logistical networks of handlers operating from across the border.

The identity of the terror handler has not been publicly disclosed, but authorities confirmed that he is linked to Pakistan-based terror outfits that actively recruit, fund and coordinate operations in the Kashmir region. The attachment order allows the government to take control of the assets, preventing them from being used to further extremist agendas.

    Legal Framework and Enforcement

Under the UAPA, law enforcement agencies have the power to provisionally attach property of individuals or entities suspected of involvement in terrorist activities. Once attached, assets can be detained by the state pending adjudication, depriving terror operatives of their financial base. Senior police officials in Jammu said this action is designed to weaken the infrastructure supporting terrorism in border districts like Poonch, where security challenges remain high.

    Security Context in Poonch

Poonch district, located along the Line of Control (LoC), has historically witnessed frequent infiltration attempts and ceasefire violations. Security forces maintain a robust presence in the area, and frequent operations are conducted to thwart terror activities. The latest action reflects sustained pressure on terror networks and their facilitators.

Officials reiterated that targeting financial assets of terror handlers is critical to dismantling organized terror support systems. No arrests were reported in connection with this property attachment, but sources said investigations are ongoing.
