NCW Takes Notice of Jodhpur Sisters’ Suicide Case, Seeks Report From Rajasthan Police

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the Jodhpur sisters’ suicide case and sought a detailed report from Rajasthan Police over allegations of gang rape, blackmail, sexual exploitation, and police inaction.

The case has sparked outrage across Rajasthan after two sisters from rural Jodhpur allegedly died by suicide within two months following years of harassment and repeated pleas for justice.

NCW Seeks Action-Taken Report

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Rajasthan Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, demanding immediate, impartial, and time-bound action in the matter.

The Commission has directed authorities to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days. It has also sought details about:

• FIR sections invoked in the case
• Arrest status of all accused
• Progress of the investigation
• Digital and forensic evidence collected
• Allegations of police negligence despite earlier complaints

The NCW also asked what legal, counseling, security, and rehabilitation support is being provided to the victims’ family.

Allegations of Exploitation and Blackmail

According to the complaint, the elder sister allegedly faced years of gang rape, blackmail, and extortion by multiple accused persons. She reportedly died by suicide in March after enduring prolonged harassment.

In a police complaint filed later, the younger sister alleged that a local e-Mitra operator secretly recorded obscene videos of her elder sister and used them for blackmail. The complaint named several accused and alleged repeated sexual exploitation over nearly four years.

The younger sister also reportedly warned police that she too could take an extreme step if justice was not delivered. She later allegedly died by suicide after claiming no significant police action had been taken despite repeated complaints.

Public Anger Over Alleged Police Inaction

The incident has triggered protests and public anger in Jodhpur, with social groups and locals demanding strict action against the accused as well as accountability for alleged police negligence.

The NCW strongly condemned the incident, stating that crimes against women and negligence at any level would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
