Jyoti Nooran Ransom Threat: ₹1 Crore Extortion Demand, Firing Outside Jalandhar Home

Jalandhar: Punjab-based Sufi singer Jyoti Nooran is allegedly being threatened with a ₹1 crore ransom demand, her husband Usman has claimed. The singer, who is based in Jalandhar, has reportedly been receiving threats via WhatsApp calls.

Usman alleged that the extortion threats are being made in the name of gangster Sampat Nehra.

Shooting Outside Home Linked to Threat?

According to Usman, unidentified individuals have been loitering outside their residence at night for several months. Two days ago, shots were fired outside their home, escalating concerns.

He suspects the firing incident is linked to the ongoing extortion threats. “The ransom seekers have been circling outside the house several times. Suspicious individuals have been seen repeatedly. But the first shooting happened only two days ago. Similar attempts were made more than three times earlier,” he said.

Usman stated that police arrested the person who allegedly opened fire and are currently interrogating him. However, the family has not been informed about who directed the attack.

Threats in the Name of Sampat Nehra

The ransom callers are allegedly demanding ₹1 crore in the name of Sampat Nehra and threatening to kill the singer if the money is not paid.

Sampat Nehra is known as an associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and has been described by security agencies as a key operative of the Bishnoi gang.

In 2018, Nehra came into the spotlight when Haryana Police’s Special Task Force arrested him in Hyderabad for allegedly plotting to assassinate Bollywood actor Salman Khan. He had reportedly conducted reconnaissance of the actor’s residence, Galaxy Apartments, in Mumbai.

Though currently lodged in jail, security agencies have previously indicated that Nehra’s network may continue to operate from behind bars.

Police Investigation Underway

Usman said a formal complaint was filed with the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police more than six months ago regarding the threats. The WhatsApp number used to make the ransom calls was also shared with authorities, but it has allegedly not been traced so far.

After the recent firing incident, police reached the spot and stated that an investigation is ongoing.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement detailing the progress of the probe or confirming any direct link between the firing and the alleged extortion threats.
