Kaliganj Blast Case: Tamanna Khatun’s Mother Attempts Suicide

Kolkata: The mother of Tamanna Khatun, a minor girl killed in the June crude bomb attack in Kaliganj, Nadia district, West Bengal, attempted suicide. According to police, she overdosed on sleeping pills at home on Tuesday. Family members spotted her in time and rushed her to the hospital, saving her life.
She is currently admitted to Shaktinagar District Hospital in Krishnanagar and is reported to be in stable condition. Family members say she was in deep depression since her daughter’s death.

The Fight for Justice Still Continues
Since Tamanna’s death, at least 10 people have been arrested in connection with the case, and the case has reached the Kolkata High Court. But the family says their suffering hasn’t subsided.

The victim’s family alleges that they named 28 people in their complaint, but only 10 were arrested. Efforts are being made to shield the remaining culprits.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directed the police to take strict action after the incident, leading to arrests within 24 hours.

Political tensions escalate after the by-elections

The incident occurred on June 23rd, when TMC supporters held a victory procession following the Kaliaganj Assembly by-election results. Someone in the crowd allegedly threw crude bombs towards Tamanna Khatoon’s home, killing the minor.

The family alleges that their home was targeted due to political rivalry stemming from their affiliation with the CPM.

Tamanna’s family approached the Kolkata High Court in July, seeking justice and demanding a CBI investigation. In September—84 days after the incident—the state police filed the first 340-page charge sheet in the case.
