Everest Legend ‘Kami Rita’ Breaks Own Record with 32nd Mount Everest Summit

Kathmandu: Kami Rita, popularly known worldwide as the “Everest Man,” first climbed Everest in 1994 and has since become one of the most celebrated figures in global mountaineering.

In a congratulatory message, 14 Peaks Expedition praised his extraordinary achievement, stating that his determination, experience and resilience continue to inspire climbers around the world.

“At 55 years old, he once again proves that determination, experience and resilience can continue to achieve success even at the highest peaks on Earth,” the expedition company said.

Born in Thame village of Nepal’s Solukhumbu district, Kami Rita has spent decades working as a high-altitude guide on Everest and remains deeply connected to Himalayan mountaineering traditions.

Environmental Advocate for the Himalayas

Apart from his mountaineering accomplishments, Kami Rita has also been actively advocating for environmental conservation in the Himalayan region. He has repeatedly raised concerns about climate change, melting glaciers and their impact on local communities and ecosystems around Everest.

Officials said he is currently working as a mountain guide on Everest under an official climbing permit issued by Nepal’s Department of Tourism.

Lhakpa Sherpa Sets Women’s Everest Record

Meanwhile, celebrated climber Lhakpa Sherpa, popularly known as the “Mountain Queen,” also scripted history by scaling Mount Everest for the 11th time, creating a world record for the highest number of Everest ascents by a female climber.

Born in Nepal’s Sankhuwasabha district, Lhakpa Sherpa achieved the feat during the same climbing season, adding another milestone to Nepal’s mountaineering legacy.
