Kangana Ranaut to Appear via Video Conferencing in Bathinda Defamation Case Today

Bathinda: MP and film actress Kangana Ranaut will appear before a special court in Bathinda today in a defamation case. Her appearance will be via video conferencing. During the previous hearing, the court had allowed Kangana Ranaut to appear via video conferencing. This facility was also granted to her last time.

Meanwhile, the court is also expected to deliver its verdict today in another case involving the seizure of passports. This case originated during the farmers’ protests against the agricultural laws in Delhi. Mahinder Kaur of Bahadurgarh Jadia village in Bathinda filed the petition.

Kangana had mocked an elderly woman

Kangana had tweeted during the farmers’ protest, writing that women join the farmers’ movement for 100 rupees. Kangana also commented on a post about the farmers’ protest, which included a photo of an elderly woman.

The actress wrote, “Hahaha, this is the same grandmother who was featured in Time magazine as one of India’s most powerful women, available for 100 rupees. Pakistani journalists have shamefully hijacked India’s international PR. We need our own people to speak out internationally.” Kangana had posted this about the elderly woman and mocked her.

Defamation Case Filed Over 2021 Farmers’ Protest Tweet

Mahinder Kaur (81), a resident of Bahadurgarh village in Bathinda, filed a defamation case following Kangana’s tweet on January 4, 2021. The hearing lasted nearly 13 months, after which a Bathinda court issued summons to Kangana and ordered her to appear.

High Court and Supreme Court Rejections

Kangana then filed a petition for relief in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which was rejected. She then approached the Supreme Court, where she received no relief either.
