Bathinda Court Rejects Kangana Ranaut’s Plea for Virtual Hearing in Defamation Case

Bathinda: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, has received a setback from a court in Bathinda, Punjab. The court rejected her plea to appear via video conference in a defamation case filed against her for her comments on the farmers’ protest.

Kangana will now have to appear in court in person on October 27. The court order will be delivered to Kangana Ranaut through the SSP.

A few days ago, the court summoned Kangana to appear before it. Earlier, the Supreme Court had also refused to grant her relief.

This incident dates back to 2021, during the ongoing farmers’ protest. During that time, Kangana tweeted about 87-year-old Mahinder Kaur, a farmer from Bahadurgarh Jandia village in Bathinda, who was taking ₹100 each to join the protest.

Mahinder Kaur filed a case against this in court. Kangana claimed that she had merely reposted a lawyer’s post.

Kangana Ranaut had commented on women farmers

During the farmers’ protest, Kangana had tweeted that women join the farmers’ protest for 100 rupees. Kangana also commented on a post about the farmers’ protest. It contained a photo of an elderly woman. The actress wrote, “Hahaha, this is the same grandmother who was featured in Time magazine as a powerful woman in India. She is available for 100 rupees. Pakistani journalists have shamefully hijacked India’s international PR. We need our own people to speak at the international level.”

The case was filed on January 4, 2021

Mahinder Kaur (81) , a resident of Bahadurgarh village in Bathinda, filed a defamation case on January 4, 2021, following Kangana’s tweet. The hearing lasted approximately 13 months, after which a Bathinda court issued summons to Kangana and ordered her to appear. Kangana then filed a petition for relief in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which was rejected. She then approached the Supreme Court, where she received no relief either. Now, she has been asked to appear in the Bathinda court.
