New Delhi: Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has questioned Kriti Sanon’s outfit in a recently released Raksha Bandhan jewellery advertisement, saying the actor had several styling choices available for the festival-themed campaign.
The advertisement features Sanon in an Indo-Western outfit comprising a bralette-style blouse, cape and draped skirt. The styling has sparked criticism on social media, with some users questioning whether the outfit was appropriate for a traditional festival.
Kangana Questions Kriti’s Outfit
Ranaut joined the discussion through a post on her Instagram Stories on Monday evening.
Questioning the choice of outfit, she wrote that women today have a wide variety of clothing options, ranging from Western outfits to traditional Indian wear.
She then questioned why someone would tie a rakhi to their brother while wearing what she described as a “bikini/undergarments”, adding that the advertisement looked “intentionally creepy”.
Advertisement Sparks Social Media Debate
Several social media users also criticised Sanon’s styling in the advertisement.
Some users questioned the absence of traditional elements associated with Raksha Bandhan, while others objected to what they viewed as the sexualisation of a festival celebrating the sibling bond.
One user questioned whether the same styling would have been used for other festivals, while another criticised the advertisement’s presentation of women.
Another social media user asked, “Who dresses like this on rakhi?”
What Is Raksha Bandhan?
Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrating the bond between siblings. Observed on the full moon of Shravan, usually in August, the festival traditionally involves sisters tying a sacred thread, or rakhi, on their brothers’ wrists.
The occasion symbolises love and protection between siblings. Traditional celebrations also include rituals such as aarti, tilak and exchanging sweets and gifts.
