Retired Army Man Shoots Wife, Son Dead in Kanpur, Dies by Suicide Under Train

Kanpur: A shocking incident of double murder and suicide has surfaced from Kanpur, where a retired army man allegedly shot dead his wife and 16-year-old son before dying by suicide under a moving train on Monday morning.

The incident occurred in Bakharia village under the Sen West Para police station area. The deceased has been identified as Chetram Paswan, who was working as a security guard after retirement from the Army.

Body Found on Railway Track

According to police, around 7:30 am, information was received that a man had died after being hit by a freight train near the Kathogar-Imlipur railway underpass. Officers reached the spot and identified the deceased through his Aadhaar card and motorcycle registration details found in his pocket.

Police suspect he died by suicide after lying on the railway track.

Wife, Son Found Dead at Home

When police reached Paswan’s residence to inform the family, they found the main door unlocked from outside. After entering the house, officers discovered the bodies of his wife Sunita Verma (40) and son Deep (16).

A licensed double-barreled gun was recovered from the spot. Bloodstains were found from the kitchen to the bedroom. The forensic team collected blood samples, the weapon, blood-stained clothes, and a mobile phone for investigation.

Son Shot While Trying to Save Mother

Preliminary investigation suggests that Paswan first shot his wife. Hearing the gunshot, their son rushed to the room, allegedly to rescue his mother, but he too was shot near the doorway.

Police officials said the exact sequence of events will be confirmed after postmortem and forensic reports.

Domest Dispute Suspected 

In their initial investigation, the police suspect suicide after the husband killed his wife and son. Neighbors said that Chetram Paswan worked as a security guard after retirement.

The husband and wife had a fight late last night over something. Six months ago, the elder daughter was married to a young man from Meerut. Four months ago, Chetram had built a new house. His son, wife, and Chetram lived in this house. Police have currently sent the bodies for postmortem.
