Kanpur: Father, Son die of suffocation while cleaning Sewer Tank

In Kanpur, within the Guba Garden area under the jurisdiction of the Kalyanpur police station, a father and son who descended into a sewer tank for cleaning purposes died after being exposed to toxic gas. This incident has caused a massive stir across the entire region, and the condition of the deceased’s family members is pitiable as they are inconsolable in their grief.

According to reports, Javed and his son, Akib, had entered a sewer tank in the Kalyanpur area to clean it. The concentration of toxic gas accumulated inside the tank was so intense that both laborers lost consciousness almost instantly. When a considerable amount of time passed without any signs of movement from within, local residents immediately alerted the police and the administration.

Police Rush Victims to Hallet Hospital

Upon receiving news of the accident, the administration was thrown into a state of urgency. A heavy police force, accompanied by CFO Deepak Sharma, the DCP, the ACP, the local Station House Officer (SHO), fire brigade personnel, and ambulances, rushed to the scene. After a strenuous effort, both individuals were extracted from the tank and immediately transported to Hallet Hospital via ambulance.

Prima Facie: Death Caused by Toxic Gas

However, following an examination at the hospital, doctors declared both the father and son dead. Confirming the incident, Ashutosh Yadav, the ACP of Kalyanpur, stated that—prima facie—the cause of death appears to be the inhalation of toxic gas present inside the sewer tank.

    Bodies Sent for Post-mortem

The police have sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination, and a thorough investigation into the matter is underway to determine whether safety protocols were disregarded. This incident has once again raised serious questions regarding the absolute necessity of using safety equipment during sewer cleaning operations.
