Kanpur, March 31, 2026 – Uttar Pradesh police have exposed a major illegal kidney transplant racket in Kanpur after a dispute over payment brought the network to light. A young donor was reportedly promised ₹10 lakh for his kidney, which was then sold for around ₹90 lakh to a patient in need, officials said.

How the Racket Worked

Police investigations reveal that brokers recruited financially distressed individuals by offering money for their kidneys. Once a match was found, the organ was surgically removed in private facilities and then sold to recipients through a covert network involving multiple hospitals and medical staff.

Raids, Arrests and Ongoing Probe

Following the complaint over a ₹50,000 payment dispute, police, along with health department teams, conducted raids at multiple clinics and private hospitals. Several suspects, including hospital staff and brokers, have been detained so far as authorities dig deeper into the network.
