After Aishwarya and Abhishek, Karan Johar moves Delhi HC to protect personality rights

Mumbai: After Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, now producer-director Karan Johar has also filed a petition in the Delhi High Court demanding not to use his photo, voice and other personal symbols without his permission.

According to news agency PTI, Karan Johar has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court for protection of personality rights. He has demanded to stop people from illegally selling goods in his name. Karan Johar has approached the Delhi High Court on Monday today demanding protection of his identity and publicity rights.

Karan Johar’s petition has come up for hearing before Justice Manmeet PS Arora, who has sought some clarifications from his lawyer. Apart from the protection of his personality and publicity rights, Karan Johar has also requested the court to pass an order directing certain websites and platforms not to illegally sell mugs and T-shirts and other items bearing his name and picture.

In this case, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan have also got relief from the Delhi High Court. The court has banned online platforms from using the actor’s name, photos and voice without his permission. Also, the use of Abhishek’s AI-generated photos has also been banned.

Before Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, actor Jackie Shroff had also approached the court in May this year. He had alleged that merchandise was being sold without permission by changing his image and video. At that time, the court had also protected his personality and publicity rights.

In the year 2023, the court had banned the misuse of Anil Kapoor’s image, voice and his ‘Jhakaas’ catchphrase. At the same time, in November 2022, Amitabh Bachchan’s personality and publicity rights were also protected.
