Karan Johar to Host Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Awards Night in Mumbai

Mumbai: Filmmaker and television host Karan Johar is set to host The Earthshot Prize Awards Night in Mumbai on November 17, 2026, becoming the first Indian to host the annual global environmental awards ceremony. The event will mark the first time The Earthshot Prize is being held in India.

Founded by Prince William, The Earthshot Prize recognises and supports innovative solutions aimed at addressing some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. The 2026 edition has selected 15 finalists across five categories, with five winners to receive £1 million each to help scale their solutions.

Karan Johar to Host Earthshot Prize in Mumbai

Speaking about his new role, Johar said it was a matter of immense pride to become the first Indian to host the Earthshot Prize Awards Night, adding that hosting the ceremony in Mumbai made the occasion even more meaningful.

Johar brings experience across cinema, television and streaming to the event. He is known for hosting Koffee with Karan and the Indian adaptation of The Traitors, in addition to his work as a filmmaker and producer.

Prince William Welcomes 2026 Finalists

Prince William, founder and president of The Earthshot Prize, said the finalists offered renewed optimism by demonstrating that solutions to environmental challenges are already working around the world.

The 2026 finalists were selected from nearly 7,000 nominations across 169 countries. The five Earthshot categories are Protect and Restore Nature, Revive Our Oceans, Clean Our Air, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix Our Climate.

Earthshot Prize Summit to Bring Global Leaders to Mumbai

The Earthshot Prize Summit will bring together global leaders, innovators, funders, businesses and communities to build connections and support environmental solutions. The two-day programme will culminate in the sixth Earthshot Prize Awards Night on November 17.

India has previously contributed several finalists and winners to the Earthshot Prize. The official organisation says India is home to seven Earthshot finalists, including four winners from previous editions.
