Mumbai: Karan Johar and Farah Khan share a close friendship today, but the two did not get off to the best start. Karan recently recalled an interesting incident from the making of the iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, revealing why Farah had initially refused to choreograph a song in the Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol-starrer.

Farah Khan initially turned down DDLJ offer

During an old appearance on the chat show Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, Karan Johar and Farah Khan shared an anecdote from the making of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Karan, who worked as an assistant on the film, recalled that a scheduling issue had arisen with choreographer Saroj Khan. Shah Rukh Khan, who had previously worked with Farah in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, suggested approaching her to choreograph a song that was being filmed in Switzerland.

However, Farah initially declined the offer because she was already committed to a Marathi film.

Karan recalled that despite everyone telling Farah what a major opportunity it was, she remained firm about her existing professional commitment. He said he was impressed by her professionalism and seriousness towards her work.

Farah eventually choreographed iconic song

As fate would have it, Farah eventually became the choreographer for Ruk Jaa O Dil Deewane, one of the memorable songs from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Farah also recalled that Karan Johar was part of the song’s shoot and that his pants tore during filming. Karan jokingly explained that he had become “a little too excited” for the shot.

The song went on to become one of the memorable moments from the 1995 romantic drama, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles.

Karan and Farah worked together on several films

Over the years, Farah Khan went on to choreograph several songs for Karan Johar’s films, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006).

Karan also made a cameo appearance in Farah Khan’s directorial debut Om Shanti Om in 2007.

What began with Farah turning down an offer eventually became a long-standing professional association and friendship between the two filmmakers.
