Karnal NDPS Case: Advocate Booked for Allegedly Submitting Fake FDRs to Secure Bail

Haryana: A serious case has come to light in Karnal district where an accused was granted bail by presenting fraudulent documents. On court orders, police have filed a case against an advocate. An investigation revealed that two of the three FDRs submitted for bail were fraudulent, while the third was broken within a week, contrary to regulations. Police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation.

    FIR Registered Following Court Directions

The case was registered at the Civil Lines Police Station, Karnal, based on a complaint from Court Reader Rajneet Rathore. The complaint was submitted on May 12th, pursuant to a court order. Based on this complaint, a case was registered on June 23rd. The investigation has now been handed over to Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar of Police Post Sector 13.

Bail Granted in NDPS Case Subject to FDR Condition

According to information, a case is ongoing at the Sadar Police Station, Karnal, based on an FIR registered on December 9, 2023. Vijay Kumar is accused of supplying approximately 1,280 kg of hashish. The case is pending in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ritu. The Punjab and Haryana High Court granted bail to Vijay Kumar on November 12, 2025, subject to the condition of depositing an FDR of ₹3 lakh.

    Ankit Kumar became the surety.

During the bail process, a bail bond and security bond were submitted by the accused on February 7th. Ankit Kumar, a resident of Krishna Nagar Gamdi, Kurukshetra, presented the documents as surety. He deposited three FDRs from Federal Bank, Sector 7, Karnal, each worth Rs 1 lakh.

    Bank Verification Exposes Alleged Fraud

When the court ordered an investigation into these FDRs, a Federal Bank report revealed shocking facts. The bank stated that two FDRs were completely fraudulent and did not exist in its records. The third FDR was closed on February 12th.

The investigation also revealed that the accused’s bail bond was submitted on February 7th, but Ankit Kumar broke the FDR within just a week. He was fully aware that the FDR was required to be maintained until the trial was completed. Despite this, he violated the rules.

Money Allegedly Exchanged for Surety Arrangement

Accused Vijay Kumar’s statement also revealed that his family had paid him ₹1 lakh to obtain an FDR. Ankit Kumar also took ₹40,000 in exchange for standing as a surety. This clearly indicates that financial gain was involved in the entire case.

The complaint states that Ankit Kumar, a lawyer by profession, was fully aware of the responsibilities of a surety. Despite this, he knowingly submitted false documents and misled the court. This constitutes fraud and forgery.

    Police Launch Detailed Investigation

The police have registered a case under various sections of the IPC in this matter. In accordance with the court order, they have been directed to submit an action report within one month. The matter is being thoroughly investigated, and all relevant documents have been seized to further the investigation.
