In what authorities have described as a horrifying family massacre, the accused, identified as Akshay Kumar, is alleged to have killed his father Bhimaraj (50), mother Jayalakshmi alias Jayamma (45) and 17-year-old sister Amrutha inside their rented home in L B Colony on Harapanahalli Road in Kotturu. According to police, the murders occurred three days before the crime was discovered when the accused travelled to Bengaluru and unexpectedly went to the Tilak Nagar Police Station to report his family missing.

Police Suspicion and Arrest

Officers at the Bengaluru police station became suspicious of the man’s behaviour while he filed the missing persons complaint, triggering further questioning that led to his detention and interrogation. During questioning, police allege he confessed to fatally attacking his family members. Detectives then traced the crime scene back to the rented house in Kotturu, where forensic teams later uncovered the buried bodies of his parents and sister.

Location and Victims’ Background

The family originally hailed from Nayakanahatti village in Chitradurga district and had relocated to Kotturu for work years earlier, according to police. Investigators said the bodies had been interred inside the same house where the family lived, but details about how the burial was carried out have not yet been fully disclosed by authorities.

Investigation and Motive Unknown

Police from the Vijayanagar district, including Superintendent of Police S. Jahnavi and Deputy Superintendent Mallesh Doddmani, accompanied by the dog squad and fingerprint experts, inspected the crime scene and are continuing a detailed investigation into the incident.
