Karnataka SIR: Names of 12.5 percent voters missing from voter list in Belagavi district

Bengaluru: During the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Karnataka, it has been revealed that the names of approximately 12.5 percent of voters in Belagavi district are missing from the revised voter list. This revelation has raised questions about the accuracy of the voter list.

This situation came to light during a verification drive being conducted by the Election Commission. The purpose of this process is to remove the names of deceased, transferred, duplicate, and other ineligible voters from the voter list and to include the names of all eligible citizens.

The issue has also sparked political reactions. Opposition parties have questioned the transparency of the revision process and demanded that no eligible voter’s name be left out.

However, election officials say the voter list revision process is still ongoing. Eligible voters whose names have not been included in the list can get their names added by submitting the required documents within the stipulated time limit.

The Election Commission has stated that the objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to prepare an accurate, updated and error-free voter list before the upcoming elections, so that no eligible voter is deprived of his or her right to vote.
