Kashmir Women’s Organisation to Intensify Fight Against Drug Addiction, Women to Lead Awareness Campaign

Srinagar: The Kashmir Women’s Organisation (KWO) has announced plans to strengthen its campaign against drug addiction by placing women at the centre of awareness, prevention and rehabilitation initiatives under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

KWO Chairperson Darakhshan Hassan Bhat said the organisation will expand community outreach programmes, promote counselling support and encourage people struggling with substance abuse to seek help without fear of social stigma.

Women to Play Key Role in Drug-Free Kashmir Campaign

Speaking about the initiative, Bhat highlighted that women are among the most affected by drug abuse, either directly or as family members of those battling addiction.

She said women can become powerful agents of social change by creating awareness at the family and community levels. According to her, empowering women is essential for building stronger communities capable of addressing the growing challenge of substance abuse.

KWO Plans Wider Awareness and Rehabilitation Efforts

Bhat said the organisation has already conducted several awareness drives and community programmes but will now accelerate its efforts under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign.

The group plans to strengthen family support systems, connect affected individuals with professional counselling and promote rehabilitation facilities to help people overcome addiction.

She also referred to the government’s 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, saying thousands of women participated in the campaign and KWO is preparing a broader action plan for future initiatives.

    Organisation Expands Women’s Leadership Network

Highlighting KWO’s work, Bhat said the organisation has directly engaged more than 20,000 women and reached over eight million people through digital platforms.

She added that initiatives like the Gender Equity Fellowship are helping women develop leadership skills, digital literacy, constitutional awareness and community engagement abilities.

The organisation also uses platforms like the Darakshan Sitaray podcast and social media campaigns to promote positive messages and encourage greater participation of women in social issues.

Future Roadmap Focuses on Grassroots Empowerment

KWO aims to expand its presence in rural and remote areas while focusing on women’s entrepreneurship, digital literacy and participation in decision-making.

The organisation said tackling drug addiction will remain one of its major priorities as it works towards creating healthier families and communities across Jammu and Kashmir.
