Kavinder Gupta appointed as new Governor of Himachal Pradesh

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, has been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh, while Shiv Pratap Shukla has been given the responsibility of Telangana. Shukla served as Governor of Himachal Pradesh for nearly three years. Shukla assumed office as the 29th Governor of Himachal Pradesh on February 18, 2023.

He was sworn in as the 29th Governor of Himachal Pradesh on the same day at a ceremony held at the then Raj Bhavan, now Lok Bhavan, Shimla.

Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla has been actively involved in politics for a long time. He was active in politics from the Gorakhpur region and was considered a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He also served as a Cabinet Minister in the Uttar Pradesh government.

He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha and held the position of Minister of State for Finance in the Central Government. During his nearly three-year tenure as Governor, he played an active role in education, social development, and various public welfare programs in the state.

Kavinder Gupta was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh in July 2025. News of Kavinder Gupta’s sudden resignation yesterday sparked a flurry of speculation. By nightfall, all speculation was put to rest. News broke that he had been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Those who had expressed surprise at his resignation began congratulating Kavinder Gupta.
