Kavinder Gupta to Be Sworn in as Himachal Pradesh’s 30th Governor Tomorrow

Shimla: Kavinder Gupta will arrive in Shimla today and will be sworn in as the state’s 30th Governor tomorrow.

The oath of office and secrecy will be administered by Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia at 11:45 AM at Lok Bhavan, Shimla.

Preparations and Welcome Ceremony

With the departure of former Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Lok Bhavan has been prepared to welcome the new Governor. Kavinder Gupta will be welcomed at 6:30 PM today.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, cabinet ministers, senior bureaucrats, army and police officials, and BJP leaders will be present at the event.

Previous Role as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh

Kavinder Gupta served as the third Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, taking office on July 18, 2025, and resigned after approximately nine months. He has now been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh.

Political Background and Public Life

• Early Life: Joined the RSS at age 13; spent 13 months in jail during the Emergency

• Local Governance: Served three consecutive terms as Mayor of Jammu

• BJP Roles: General Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir BJP, President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (1993–1998)

• Legislative Career: Elected MLA from Gandhi Nagar constituency in 2014 and served as Speaker of the Assembly

• Other Work: Began public service as secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad
