Chandigarh: Congress general secretary K C Venugopal arrived in Chandigarh ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s November 4 visit to Punjab, as the party prepares to strengthen its organisation and step up preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections.
Venugopal is scheduled to meet senior party leaders and district presidents to discuss election preparations and the arrangements for Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Sangrur. Punjab Congress chief Pargat Singh, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring were among the leaders present to receive him. Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot was also present.
Speaking to the media, Venugopal said the meetings would focus on election preparations and Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming visit.
Congress Focuses on Punjab Election Preparations
Pargat Singh announced Rahul Gandhi’s November 4 visit and said the programme would help give direction to the party’s campaign in Punjab. The state Congress leadership is focusing on strengthening the organisation and improving coordination among party leaders and workers ahead of the elections.
The Sangrur rally is expected to mark the start of the Congress’s intensified campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. The party is also looking to increase its public outreach, particularly in the Malwa region, which plays a significant role in the state’s electoral politics.
Venugopal’s meetings come as the Congress works to prepare its state unit for the upcoming polls. Party leaders are expected to discuss their responsibilities and plans for mobilising workers across Punjab.
‘Vote Chori’ Campaign and Punjab Rally
The November 4 rally in Sangrur is separate from the Congress-led INDIA bloc’s November 1 programme at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against alleged vote theft and irregularities in electoral rolls.
The Congress has been using the slogan ‘Vote Chori’ to raise concerns over voter lists and the electoral process. Rahul Gandhi has accused the BJP of benefiting from alleged irregularities, while the party has called on people to join its campaign.
The Sangrur visit, meanwhile, will give the Punjab Congress an opportunity to step up its preparations for the state elections and put its organisational plans into action.
Pargat Singh has said the party will keep public issues at the centre of its campaign as it prepares for ‘Mission 2027’.
