Kejriwal, Sisodia Stage Protest After Delhi Police Stop March to PM’s Residence Over E20 Petrol

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia staged a protest on Tuesday after Delhi Police stopped their march towards the Prime Minister’s residence over concerns related to E20 petrol.

Kejriwal, Sisodia, AAP leader Jasmine Shah and other party leaders were stopped while marching to submit more than 2.30 lakh petitions collected from people across the country against the government’s policy of promoting ethanol-blended petrol.

Following the police action, AAP leaders and supporters sat in protest on Firoz Shah Road. Around 100 people participated in the march, demanding that the government address concerns raised by vehicle owners regarding E20 fuel.

Kejriwal Submits Petitions Against E20 Fuel Policy

Addressing party workers before the march, Kejriwal said AAP was carrying over 2.30 lakh petitions signed by citizens from across India and urged the Centre to listen to the concerns of vehicle owners.

“We are going to the Prime Minister’s residence with over 2.30 lakh petitions signed by people from across the country. We want the government to listen to the concerns of crores of vehicle owners who are facing problems because of E20 petrol,” Kejriwal said.

The AAP has been opposing the use of E20 petrol, which contains 20 per cent ethanol blended with petrol, claiming it could impact vehicle owners. However, the government has issued clarifications regarding the fuel and its usage.

Delhi Police Restricts March Movement

According to police sources, protesters were not allowed to move beyond 5, Firoz Shah Road. Security arrangements were strengthened with the deployment of Delhi Police personnel and paramilitary forces to maintain law and order.

Police officials said the restriction was imposed as the march route towards the Prime Minister’s residence falls under a highly secured area.

AAP Raises Concerns Over Ethanol-Blended Petrol

AAP leader Anurag Dhanda claimed that a large number of vehicles could be affected due to ethanol-blended petrol and demanded that the government consider public concerns.

The protest comes days after AAP organised an “Ethanol Town Hall” and launched a signature campaign against E20 fuel.

Earlier, Kejriwal had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an appointment to discuss the party’s concerns regarding ethanol-blended petrol.

The government has maintained that E20 fuel is part of India’s efforts to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and promote cleaner fuel alternatives.
