Thiruvananthapuram, March 30, 2026: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has refuted claims that the state is trapped in a “debt trap,” emphasizing that Kerala has continued to make progress despite facing financial hurdles imposed by the central government.
Addressing recent criticisms, Vijayan stated that the allegations of a debt trap are misleading. He argued that Kerala’s fiscal management and development projects have ensured steady growth, even in the face of financial constraints.
The chief minister highlighted several initiatives and developmental programs that have moved forward, underscoring Kerala’s resilience. He credited effective governance and strategic planning for the state’s continued progress.
Vijayan criticized the Centre for imposing “financial blocks” that allegedly limited the state’s resources. He stressed that such hurdles should not overshadow the progress achieved by Kerala in sectors like health, education, and infrastructure.
Despite challenges, Vijayan reaffirmed his government’s commitment to sustainable growth and public welfare. He assured that Kerala would continue its development trajectory while maintaining fiscal prudence.
