Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson C. R. Kesavan on Sunday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks alleging that the central government “lacks strategy” in handling key national issues. Kesavan rejected the assertion, describing it as unfounded and politically motivated ahead of upcoming elections.
According to Kesavan, Gandhi’s observation reflects a pattern of negative and pessimistic commentary by the Congress, rather than a substantive critique rooted in facts or policy analysis.
Kesavan argued that Gandhi’s remarks about the government’s alleged lack of strategic direction were nothing more than political posturing aimed at undermining public confidence in the ruling dispensation. He described the Congress leader as the “leader of pessimism,” saying that such comments do little to offer constructive solutions or alternatives.
“Instead of engaging in meaningful debate or proposing workable solutions, these remarks reflect despair and a negative narrative that does not resonate with the aspirations of the people,” Kesavan said, asserting that the BJP-led government has clear policies and plans in place across sectors ranging from the economy to foreign affairs.
Kesavan reiterated the government’s achievements and strategic initiatives, pointing to economic indicators and policy measures that, according to him, demonstrate long‑term planning and effective governance.
He cited strong economic growth figures, public infrastructure development, and foreign policy engagements as examples of sustained strategic direction under the leadership of the central government. BJP spokespersons have in recent months consistently rebutted similar remarks by Gandhi, describing them as lacking context or understanding of governance complexities.
The attack also comes against the backdrop of Gandhi’s recent criticism of inflation concerns and warnings of rising prices after state assembly polls, which he linked to what he called the government’s poor economic planning.
Analysts say the exchange reflects the intensifying political battle ahead of major state elections, with opposition parties stepping up criticism of the central government’s performance, and the BJP defending its record vigorously.
Rahul Gandhi’s remark about the government’s lack of strategy was interpreted by the BJP as a broader criticism not only of governance but also of strategic policy decisions on both domestic and international fronts. Kesavan’s rebuttal sought to defuse the narrative by calling it a strategic misstep by the Congress.
Political observers note that as the elections draw closer, rhetoric from both sides is likely to sharpen, with each camp trying to shape public perception around leadership credentials and governance outcomes.
Critics like Gandhi have repeatedly questioned government policies on inflation, unemployment, and economic management, arguing that policy responses lack coherence and long‑term planning. His allegations about the government’s economic strategy were part of broader critiques presented during public meetings and media interactions.
In response, BJP leaders argue that such comments undermine public confidence and fail to recognise the complexities of global economic pressures and policy outcomes.
