Chandigarh: Punjab BJP leader Kewal Singh Dhillon has questioned the priorities of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, saying the state’s pressing problems deserve more attention in the Assembly than political disputes.
In a post on X, Dhillon criticised the government over the Assembly’s proceedings and raised concerns about the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota. He said Punjab needs concrete action against drugs, gangsterism and corruption rather than political statements and resolutions.

Jhota was shot dead inside a medical store in Mansa on October 13. He had reportedly confronted the store owner over the alleged sale of addictive drugs. Four other people were also injured in the incident. His killing triggered concern among those demanding stronger action against the drug menace in Punjab.
The case also drew attention after Jhota’s family demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. The Punjab government subsequently handed over the investigation to the central agency. The CBI registered a fresh FIR and began examining the case.
Dhillon questioned why the state’s drug problem and law-and-order situation were not receiving the attention they deserved during the Assembly session. He argued that the House should be used to discuss issues directly affecting the people of Punjab and hold the government accountable for its actions.
He also raised questions about the government’s earlier assurances regarding the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls. Dhillon referred to the assurance that no eligible voter would be removed from the electoral list and that AAP workers would monitor the work of Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
His criticism came amid a political controversy over the Assembly’s resolution against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The resolution added to the tensions surrounding the revision of voter lists and the role of the Election Commission.
Dhillon maintained that Punjab’s major challenges require serious discussion and effective solutions. With the drug problem and concerns over public safety continuing to draw attention, the killing of Jhota has added to demands for accountability.
His message to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was clear: Punjab needs results, not just resolutions.
