Toronto: A concert by Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh at Toronto’s Rogers Centre on the night of May 31 witnessed a brief disruption when a small group of individuals reportedly entered the venue carrying Khalistani flags and attempted to create a disturbance.

According to reports, security personnel and local police, who were already deployed inside the stadium, quickly moved into the crowd and escorted the individuals out of the venue before the situation could escalate.

Videos circulating on social media appear to show security staff moving through the audience and removing those involved.

Attempted Protest Fails to Disrupt Performance

The incident occurred while Dosanjh was performing before an audience of nearly 50,000 fans. Witnesses said some individuals carrying flags entered the crowd and began raising slogans. Security officials initially asked them to leave voluntarily, but after they allegedly refused, they were forcibly escorted out.

He said that while people may bring banners or flags to express support, anyone attempting to create disturbances during his shows would be removed by security. Dosanjh also emphasized that he was not opposed to any particular flag or banner and urged people not to spread false narratives about his position.

At the opening stage of his tour in Vancouver, a group of pro-Khalistan supporters reportedly waved flags and raised slogans during the event. The incident drew attention after activists associated with the organization Sikhs for Justice claimed responsibility and warned of further protests at upcoming shows.

Dosanjh continued the performance despite the disruption and later reiterated that while he speaks about Punjab and Sikh history on global platforms, he does not endorse violence or separatist activities.

A similar situation unfolded in Calgary when protesters displayed Khalistani flags during a performance. Dosanjh paused briefly and addressed the crowd, reportedly stating that political drama would not be allowed to overshadow the concert. Security officials subsequently removed those causing the disturbance.

Controversy Linked to Television Appearance

Opposition from some extremist and pro-Khalistan groups reportedly intensified after Dosanjh appeared as a guest on the TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati and greeted veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan by touching his feet, a traditional Indian gesture of respect.

Certain groups criticized the gesture, citing allegations they associate with Bachchan regarding the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Following the episode, some organizations threatened to protest Dosanjh’s concerts.
