The Bhagwant Singh Mann government’s sports policy in Punjab has infused new energy into the state’s youth. The “Khedaan Watan Punjab Diyan” campaign has transformed sports into a mass movement and has steered youth away from drug addiction and returned them to the field.
This event, which has completed three seasons so far, has inspired thousands of youth. The government awarded prize money worth ₹33.83 crore to 168 athletes who performed exceptionally well at the Asian and National Games. Gold medalists received ₹1 crore, silver medalists ₹75 lakh, and bronze medalists ₹50 lakh.
19 athletes from Punjab represented India at the Paris Olympics, including 10 hockey players. Eight athletes were awarded Rs 1 crore each for winning bronze medals, and two reserve athletes were awarded Rs 15 lakh each. Additionally, 22 athletes preparing for the Paralympics received incentives of Rs 15 lakh each.
To promote career opportunities in sports, seven athletes were appointed as DSPs and four were appointed to PCS positions. Construction of 13,000 modern stadiums is underway in the state, with work underway on 3,083.
Chief Minister Mann said, “Punjab is a land of sporting talent. Our policy aims to empower every youth to excel on the field.”
