King Charles’ Brother Prince Andrew Faces Fresh Heat Over Epstein Links

New Delhi: Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, the younger brother of King Charles III, has reportedly been arrested in Britain on suspicion of misconduct in public office. According to a BBC report, police detained him at his Sandringham residence around 8 a.m. on Thursday, which coincidentally also happened to be his birthday.

The case is said to be related to his tenure as Britain’s Trade Envoy.

Epstein case resurfaces

Prince Andrew has previously been embroiled in controversy over his links to American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

American victim Virginia Giuffre alleged in 2021 that Andrew sexually abused her in 2001, when she was 17. Prince Andrew denied all allegations. The case was later settled with a settlement of approximately 12 million pounds, although they did not admit any wrongdoing. Virginia Giuffre died in April 2025, which was reported as a suicide.

Serious Charges and Possible Punishment

Misconduct in public office is considered a serious crime in Britain. If convicted, the maximum sentence could be life imprisonment.

Documents previously released by the US Department of Justice stated that Andrew had been in contact with Epstein even during his official tenure, further deepening the controversy.

Royal Titles Already Stripped

In October of last year, King Charles stripped Prince Andrew of his royal titles and military honors. He was also instructed to vacate the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

He is now officially known as “Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.” Andrew, 65, stepped down from royal duties in 2019. However, despite being stripped of his titles, he remains eighth in the line of succession to the British throne.

Controversy Escalates After Revelations

Virginia Giuffre first revealed in 2011 that she fell into Epstein’s network as a teenager. In her interviews and memoirs, she described meetings with Andrew in London, New York, and the Caribbean islands.

These allegations and recent developments have once again placed the British royal family under legal and public scrutiny.
