Tourists Seen Drinking Beer on Kiratpur–Manali Highway; Viral Video Sparks Outrage

Himachal: Once again, an instance of tourist negligence has come to light on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway. A video recorded between the Behna and Chakkar areas is currently going viral on social media. In the footage, two youths traveling in a car bearing a Haryana registration number (HR 26F Y9792) are seen leaning out of the windows of the moving vehicle while consuming beer. This incident occurred on May 2nd.

The viral video clearly shows the youths, seated in a speeding car, performing stunts—leaning their upper bodies out of the windows—while consuming alcohol. This constitutes not only a blatant violation of traffic regulations but also posed a grave risk to the lives of the youths involved. In the 20-second clip, the youths are also seen discarding their beer cans out in the open, an act that could have potentially jeopardized the safety of other motorists on the road.

Public Outrage Follows Viral Video

It is reported that the video was recorded on a mobile phone by occupants of another vehicle traveling behind the car in question, after which it was shared on social media platforms. The emergence of this video has sparked outrage among local residents. Locals allege that certain tourists visiting from other states are actively disrupting the peaceful environment of Himachal Pradesh, thereby tarnishing the state’s reputation.

SP Assures: Police Will Take Strict Action

Demands are being raised to the local administration and police to take strict action in such cases to ensure that similar incidents are curbed in the future. Mandi Superintendent of Police (SP), Vinod Kumar, stated that the matter has come to his attention and appropriate action will be taken. He further emphasized that those found violating traffic regulations will not be spared.

Previous Instances of Similar Misconduct

It is pertinent to note that numerous instances of tourists flouting traffic rules and displaying indiscipline in public spaces have been reported in Himachal Pradesh on several occasions in the past. In previous instances, similar reckless stunts have resulted in the tragic loss of life for several young individuals.
