KitKat Confirms Theft of 12 Tonnes in Europe, Over 4,00,000 Bars Missing

New Delhi: A shipment of KitKat chocolate bars disappeared last week while being transported between production and distribution points in Europe. The consignment, consisting of crunchy wafer bars coated in chocolate, was travelling from Italy to Poland when it went missing.

Swiss food giant Nestlé confirmed that around 12 tonnes—approximately 4,13,793 KitKat bars—were stolen after leaving its production site. The company stated that the vehicle carrying the shipment and its load are still untraceable.

Company Issues Alert Over Possible Unofficial Sales
Nestlé warned that the stolen chocolate bars could enter unofficial sales channels across European markets. However, the company said all products can be tracked using unique batch codes printed on each pack.

A spokesperson added that consumers, retailers, and wholesalers can identify whether a product is part of the stolen batch by scanning the batch number. If a match is found, they will receive instructions on how to report it to the company.

Rising Concern Over Cargo Theft
Highlighting the growing issue, the company noted that cargo theft is becoming increasingly common and more sophisticated. It said the decision to go public was aimed at raising awareness about the rising threat faced by businesses.

“While we appreciate the criminals’ exceptional taste, cargo theft is an escalating issue,” the company said, stressing the need for vigilance across supply chains.
