Kota: At least four people went missing after a boat carrying seven people capsized during Durga idol immersion in Kota, Rajasthan, on Wednesday. Three people who knew how to swim managed to escape, while the remaining four are yet to be found.
Police said rescue teams, including professional divers, were deployed soon after the incident was reported. Search operations are underway to trace the missing people.
Rescue Operation Underway in Kota
Superintendent of Police Tejaswani Gautam said the group had reached Canal Road for the immersion of Durga idols when their boat capsized.
“Three of them knew how to swim and managed to get out, but the other four did not,” she told reporters. Gautam added that rescue teams were making continuous efforts to locate the missing people and that the authorities had obtained the names of some of those aboard the boat.
The district administration has urged people to follow safety guidelines during idol immersion. Officials said designated immersion sites have arrangements such as rescue boats, professional divers and emergency teams to deal with accidents.
Gautam said the immediate priority was to locate the four missing people and ensure their safe recovery. She also appealed to people to use only the authorised immersion points.
The SP explained that it was not possible to provide rescue arrangements at every point along the canal. The designated sites have been equipped to handle such situations, making it important for people to avoid immersion at unauthorised locations.
Separate Road Accident Reported in Ajmer
In a separate incident earlier this week, a person died in a road accident in the Sendariya Kat area under the Adarsh Nagar police station limits in Ajmer district. The deceased was reportedly identified as Meva Meva Rawat.
Following the accident, local residents blocked the road and raised concerns over road safety measures, including the need for speed breakers and dividers.
Police personnel reached the spot and intervened to bring the situation under control. Deputy Superintendent of Police Manish Badgujar, South Ajmer, said the police had received information about the accident and immediately sent a team to the location.
