Youth Arrested for Setting Girl’s House on Fire in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: The police have arrested the youth who set ablaze the girl’s house in the village of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Fortunately, due to the alertness of the neighbours, the family members came out in time. A lot of the goods kept in the house were burnt in the fire. The police have also seized the car of the arrested accused youth. He was produced in the court on Sunday, from where he was sent on a three-day police remand.

Details of the Incident

According to a police statement, Rajesh Kumar went to sleep after having dinner with his wife and daughter around 10:00 pm on Friday night. Around 10:30 pm, flames suddenly began rising from the outer walls of the house. A woman living next door saw the flames and began screaming. Hearing the noise, Rajesh and his family awoke and hurried out of the house. The fire was brought under control after the villagers’ presence of mind and hard work.

After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene in his car. The fire destroyed precious cedar wood stored in the old house. Apple nets, plastic sheets, fuelwood, and the house’s electricity meter wires were completely destroyed. Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the Luhri police station arrived at the scene. 

Background and Arrest

Rajesh Kumar told the police that a young man named Pankaj Sharma had been pressuring him to marry his daughter. When the family refused the proposal, he threatened them over the phone two days ago. The accused had clearly stated that if his daughter was not married, he would burn the entire family to ashes inside the house. On Friday night, he carried out his horrific threat.

Police began searching for the young man after receiving a complaint. The accused was apprehended along with his car at Luhri Chowk. Kullu Superintendent of Police Madan Lal stated that action is being taken in the matter.
